Texas Stars Hockey

“We know that hockey is where we live, where we can best meet and overcome pain and wrong and death.  Life is just a place where we spend time between games.”

This is Texas football y’all.

” Son, what kind of pitch would you like to miss.”

-Dizzy Dean

The bike community is strong in Austin.  Tuesday nights at the Dirt Derby is a great display of that.

Stay tuned for more shots to come.

Here’s a derby photo from the archives.  You know you miss the hanging disco skate.

The Home Run Swing.

There is nothing quite like a perfectly played double play.

Kristopher Tyrpak going up for the header against an El Paso Patriot.  Later he went on to score the lone goal for the Aztex at their June 16th match.

This is, kind of a big deal, Roy Oswalt.

Oswalt, a three-time all-star, signed with the Rangers on May 29 and made his appearance this season on June 2 at The Dell Diamond against the Albuquerque Isotopes.  Since I had the privilege of shooting this game I will pepper you with some more photos in the near future.

The Round Rock Express went on to win 3-2.

I find that the only thing more exhilarating than watching sports is shooting them.

Colton Sceviour of the Texas Stars became the second player in Texas history to record 100 career points with the club.

A client gave me some Stars tickets and I was able to capture this shot at the game.

Cyclocross is here to stay thanks to groups like the Dirt Derby which is put on by The Peddler Bike Shop.  I suggest grabbing your bike and heading out there one Tuesday after work.  What else are you possibly doing on a Tuesday evening?  I should warn you; cyclocross is pretty addictive so get over there before the season is over.

By the way, did you know Austin was chosen to host the 2015 CX Nationals?

Are you ready to Derby?

The Texas Rollergirls are back.  A bunch of bad ass women being awesome, what’s not to love?  Check out their schedule for upcoming bouts.

Longhorn quarterback, A. Burroughs, reflects during the half-time huddle.

An evening on the rock.

Austin is home to many incredible limestone cliffs and canyons along its Greenbelts.  The only thing more captivating than the beauty of it all, is the people who climb there.  In Austin the climbing community is strong.  Never climbed before?  No problem.  There always seems to be an advanced climber willing to walk you through your first climb.  At the same time, the more advanced help each other figure out routes they might be having a difficult time with.  Out on the Greenbelt no one is a stranger, instead you are part of the climbing community here in Austin.  They are a group of compassionate and  considerate people who are always willing to help one another out.

Above is climber and EMT cadet, Ty.  When a young climber nearby took a bad fall, he and a couple of his colleagues kicked into high gear and used the useful skills they picked up through the academy.  Ty was able to keep the fallen climber calm while stopping the bleeding from the head injury and stabilizing her until the ambulance arrived for transport.  Ty is one of the many compassionate climbers of this incredible community here in Austin.

The Aztex were Austin’s professional soccer team from 2008-2010.  During those two seasons, the Aztex qualified for the US Open Cup once and finished second in their last regular season.  Along with head coach, Adrian Heath, they are moving to Orlando, Florida to become the Orlando City Lions.

As a fan and a photographer thanks for two exciting and fun-filled seasons.  Farewell and best of luck in your new soccer home.

In the words of Mario Lemeiux, “Every day is a great day for hockey”. If you have ever been to a Texas Stars game you would agree.  You can check out their schedule by clicking Texas Stars Hockey.
