Continuing on the theme of escaping during this pandemic of 2020 through outdoor photography, I take you back to the mountains of Grand Teton National Park.
Not a bad place to escape to, eh?
With the pandemic of 2020 we’re going to have to wait a bit to chase each other in circles on Thursdays in Austin.
In the meantime here’s a shot from the first and last Driveway Series for a while. I guess this is proof that some things are more important than bikes.
Watching the Tour de France has been great and all but having the opportunity to see these top tier cyclist battle it out in our own back yard is pretty much the coolest.
Race day is when you find out if all the training will pay off.
On this day, for this NightOwl, it did.
I just came across this image I captured years ago. It lived on an old hard drive and wasn’t given a second thought. This shot is pretty different from how I shoot now but I wanted to share it here because like all photographs we make, it’s part of the process. I feel like I am a better photographer because of images like this one. Being able to self critique and see what did and didn’t work here. It’s a constant learning game and I’m sure I’ll share something another 5 years from now that I’m capturing in this present time and be able to express the same sentiment.
I feel like that’s part of the beauty of art; it keeps growing and if we put enough work in, so long as we’re doing it right, we do too.

This is a bit of a throw back to about 5 years ago, capturing this amateur/pro rider smash down the mountain. Now that we have a downhill getting ready to open up here in Texas, I’m itching to get back out there and see what we can come up with behind the lens as well as behind the bars! If you’re thinking about heading out there don’t hesitate to reach out to see what we can get into.
The bike scene in Austin Texas is on fire and not just due to the high temperatures. Texas is consistently getting on the podium across the nation and I don’t think that will be changing anytime soon.
There’s not much more exhilarating than a high-speed chase to the finish line when you’re often inches from the wheel in front of you.

Ellen Nobel leads the U23 field off the line during the Cyclocross National Championships in Asheville.
It’s always an interesting moment seeing this force of power come at you when seconds before there was mostly silence and nerves on the other side of that white line.
Nobel went on to take another National title about an hour after this photo was taken. Want to see her victoriously crossing that finish line? Give us a follow on our Instagram for more things cross and I’m sure you’ll come across some of her finish line photos over the years. I don’t suspect those images will be stopping anytime soon.
Of course if you need a photographer please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Team Yacht Club making it look easy at last year’s Pace Bend Road Race as they sail into a first place finish.
Here at Austin Vivid Photography we’re gearing up to catch all the happenings during one of our favorite annual races that is just weeks away.
It’s always fun to set the shutter really fast to freeze water or to slow the shutter down to give it the nice fluid motion feel.
Here I decided to slow it down quite a bit to try and show the power of the flowing water while the kayaker surfed the swell on this river rapid. I’m pleased with the calm and contrasting energy that this captured.
We love thinking outside of the box when working with our clients. If you have a project in mind we would love to be your go to team.
It all starts with shooting us an email on what you’re thinking and we’ll get you taken care of.
